How To Repair Differential Lock Ih Tractor
Back when I was in high schoolhouse, I collection a new at the time 966 for the farmer that I worked for. That 966 was equipped with the diff. lock and it was nothing just trouble.
The first sign of trouble happened when I was driving the tractor and wanted to use the diff. lock while discing also with a packer in tow with the 966 on plowed ground, with axle duals on the tractor. I was getting a bit of rear wheel spinning from either the left or right sides as I began passing through ane part of the field. And so I finally remembered that this detail tractor was equipped with the diff. lock. Yippeee.... lol... And so the next time I could see I was coming upwardly on this slightly soft spot, I engaged the heel-operated unequal. lock just equally I entered the suspect area.
Lo-and-and-behold, the diff. lock seemed to be working "magic" as I forged ahead through the spot with no ane sided cycle spinning! Yippeeee... lol...
Then... Trouble!
At the end of the field, when I went to plow, SURRRRPRISE!!!!!! The tractor wanted to continue going straight alee as I was wanting to plow, fifty-fifty when applying the right brake!
The unequal. lock did not disengage! I was discing at the farmer'due south ain identify, in a back field, so I thought I'd endeavor to become the 966 back up to his barn yard. Well, I didn't become far before I began hearing AND FEELING LOUD grinding and crunching noises beneath me in the tractor's rear end! AHHHHHHHH *$#@!!!!
I thought I was going to exist So FIRED!
I shut the nine' down and began walking back upwards to the barn yard with tears in my optics. (I was xvi at the time, lol....)
I knew my "dominate" was plowing on another place with his 1256 and so I jumped in my automobile and collection over to where he was. (no cell phones dorsum in those days. ha) Subsequently collecting him, we went out to the field where the stricken ix' was. He tried information technology out and had to agree... Yep at that place was a trouble...
I recieved no tongue-lashing from him though. He knew I was upset and was trying to calm me down. ha...
Back up to his house we went where he got his friendly local IH dealer on the phone. They came out to choice up the 966 in rather quick manner, bringing an 856, (WITH DUALS Heed Yous!) along for us to utilize.
Now would that gesture happen these days!!?? NOT ALWAYS I BET!!!
And then, I got to bulldoze an 856 while the 966 was in the shop. Yippeee.... lol... (I loved it!)
So become this- Nosotros got my boss'southward 966 dorsum. I think it was gone four or five days... can't remember certain things. I also don't remember the particulars of what they said was wrong, as I wasn't there when they brought it back to my boss's identify, so I didn't become to kiss the 856 goodbye either... ha ha...
My dominate did not elaborate either, he just proclaimed information technology fixxed. As luck would have it, he was the next one to bulldoze the 966 in the field. At some point, he went to try the diff. lock, and apparently, while information technology did its task in straight line driving, once over again, it failed to release in a turn! Sheesh.....
This fourth dimension, I was in school while this was happening. I rememeber it being May, but a week or two before school was to let out for the Summer.
And so guess what- I got to exist reunited with "my" 856! lol... Oh happy days... ha
I estimate that 856 was a used unit that the dealer happened to take available on their lot for auction. I don't know- I never asked.
So, this time, nosotros had that 856 for quite a while, and dang virtually finished that Spring tillage season using that 856 in identify of my boss's 966.
Finally the 966 came back to his farm. I never did hear what was wrong with it. I judge I did not have much of an inquiring mind back then??? lol... Sorry I can't elaboarte hither on what the problem was.
That Autumn I did some plowing with that 966. I shied away from touching that diff. lock though.... but didn't seem to need it though, as I recall...
The rest of my times I drove tractor for that farmer, which turned out to be only the next twelvemonth, I never again touched that 9'due south diff. lock. lol.. I had a fright of information technology locking up again.
PRESENT DAY:
Today, my 1086 is equipped with a diff. lock. To this day, I'thou agape to employ information technology then I never affect it! So far though, I've never really had telephone call for it also much though. Our fields on my Dad's identify are tiled, so there's normally no united nations-uniform wet spots to get through. If it'due south likewise wet in general, I don't become out in the field catamenia.
And so- that'southward my feel with diff. lock on a new at the time 966! Ugh....
Information technology makes me afraid to bear upon mine on my own 1086....
THE End.
